TOMORROW'S EVE INTERVIEW!!!

Hello guys from Tomorrow`s Eve !!, great band, one of our favorites, thanks for this interview, lets move on...

1. The best prog metal school is the German, Crises, Hydrotoxin, Poverty’s no Crime, Superior, Vanden Plas and Dreamscape for mentioning the best, where you have been studying music?

Rainer – It’s impossible to nail down, where the best progmetal is played. Your opinion is an honor, but noone of TE has studied music on college. We elaborated our knowledge and versatility the hard way.

2. From where emerges the supertalented band Tomorrow’s Eve? Who are the former members?

TE was formed in the late 90s. The band emerged from a not so progressive metal/hardrock act, called SCAMP. The former members are mentionned later in your questions.

3. Where from are the ideas and notes to make this impressive music?

Rainer – There is no masterplan to write our music, we only want to compose music, that we would like to listen ourself.

4. What are the improvements and changes in the music in the new album?

Rainer – Musically the new album is harder and more musically. The sund has more powerful than the former releases.

5. Musically, how far has been the change since the release of the Unexpected World to Mirror of Creation II?

Rainer - I wouldn´t call it changes in the way of: „we have to change everything".

All these line-up changes and the passed time since the release of "The unexpected world" brought these changes automatically.

I would call it a natural progress and how we hope to the better.

6. Securely the lyrics theme be another great sci fi history, it will be a concept album?

Martin – When I joined the band and we started songwriting for the new album, it was the band’s wish to continue the concept of MOC.

Fortunately I was into the story due to the touring and found a neat little anchor to bring a surprisingly change into the story.

After a few weeks of brainstorming I contacted Daniel Z. Klein, a friend of me, who studies english, is a specialist for high poetry and literature and also a fan of TE.

When I asked him, if we should do this together, he was on board in a blink of an eye. The whole story of the concept unfolds, if you know the first MOC and when you have the booklet in hand, because there are some storyparts printed between the lyrics. You can find a lot hints and allegories in the story about the band also. Because this album can also be seen as the second genesis of Tomorrow’s Eve.

7. In your page there isn’t info about the past members, why they go? What happen to them?

Rainer – All former bandmembers left us at a time, that was really really awkward and causes a loss of time and status.

Of course a line-up change is always unfortunate for a band, but if you discuss it together and try to draw a line under the chapter, the band won´t suffer too badly from the changes. Unfortunately the old members broke this promise and left us in ruins that were to build up again.

On the other side we kept our promises and mentionned the former members as studio and live musicians, what should be enough.

8. Rainer Grund: Awesome the way that Oliver Jungmann plays the drums on the Mirror of Creation, did you tell him what to play? Or he did his own work?

Rainer – It was Ralf Gottlieb who played the drums on MOC 1. Oliver Jungmann supported us as livemusician. Oliver Schwickert and me composed and arranged the MOC 1 up to 95% by ourselves, what also included the basics of the drums. But Ralf played our stuff in his own way and style, after he saw what we expected.

9. It seems Tomorrow’s Eve got an irremovable base with Oliver Schwickert and Rainer Grund, why so many changes in the band?

Rainer – This is easy to explain. To build up and evolve a band like TE is very very hard work. It means to invest a lot and to receive the less to push the band further. Oliver and me have sacrificed a lot for this. With Tom Diener, Chris Doerr and Martin LeMar we finally found friends who share our vision of TE.

10. Rainer you are a truly brain, you have a perfect vision to detect and select excellent musicians, how do you that?

Rainer – Wow...way too much honor, thanks.

Fortune? Kismet? Help from above? Or just that we were obstinate to pursue our goals. I don’t really know how it happens, but I am glad with it.

11. Martin what’s your compromise with the band with your arrive?

Martin – For me it was important to be involved in the songwriting process and that I can totally be myself. In fact I am very thankful for these guys and their patience in listening to my ideas and sometimes to my "veto"s also. I brought a lot ideas with me to the songwriting and think, that a lot of the new stuff are influenced by me. Also I had full freedom in the conceptual work.

12. What we can expect for Tom Diener for the new album? "It would be an unexpected work"?

Tom - Ehemmm... hard question. What to expect?

Heavy sound, in-the-face-drumming, with a lot of tricky details to encounter, if you listen closer. And instead of playing five breaks, I play one that's really difficult. ;)

Maybe unexpected. Surprise surprise.

13. About your former line up we got this information:

Unexpected World Line-up

Rainer Grund / guitars- Oliver Schwickert / keyboards - Ralf Gottlieb / drums, percussion- Sascha Hilles / bass- Peter Webel / vocals

Rainer – That’s correct.

But:

Mirror Of Creation Line-up

Rainer Grund / guitar- Oliver Schwickert / keyboards- Oliver Jungmann / drums- René Müller / bass- Rouven Bitz / vocals

Oliver Schwickert - Keys

Rainer Grund – Guitars (2003 just we both were left)

Ralf Gottlieb – Drums

Sascha Hilles- Baß

Peter Webel – Vocals (left the band after the records to MOC 1 and are therefore named as studio-musicians)

Oliver Jungmann – Drums

Rene Mueller – Baß

Rouven Bitz – Vocals (supported us as Live-musicians and saved our asses, but haven’t made it in the final line-up)

14. Did you re-edit the Unexpected World? The singer of this album sounds very alike to the singer of Mirror of Creation, please talk about this…

Rainer – All at it’s time? We are new at Lion Music and now we have to wait, if the progworld still wants us..

About the singer...it’s the same: Peter Webel. (see question 13)

15. Great prog art in the cover of your three albums, what’s the meaning, can you explain us about this?

Martin – I can explain you a bit of the new one. On the cover you see the Complex II, what will be explained in the end of the story. On the left side you see the protagonist with empty and blind eyes, portraying the amnesia and the riddles that he has to solve. You can see (tomorrow’s) Eve as a shadow hovering over the ground, like being dragged by some invisible force to our hero.

In the background you see the new dawn (of men). There is a lot to find out and I don’t want to spoil all the hints we have placed there. But Carl André Beckston did a hell of a job regarding his artwork and I am really glad and thankful how deep he immersed into the music and the story that I explained to him in detail.

Also you will find a picture of one of the eyes of our protagonist inside the booklet and you will see, that it’s green. (See the artwork of MOC 1)

16. Any of the members have side projects?

Rainer – Yes, but all at it’s time. I have some ideas and Martin will continue working with Vivien Lalu on his projects.

Martin – Meanwhile it’s already official that Tom will takeover the drums on the next Lalu record. So you see: sideprojects are there, but TE will be our true home.

17. Tell us about your experience in ProgPower Europe 2005

Rainer – one word: overwhelming. They gave us an unbelievable welcome.

This was one of the moments, when I knew that’s worth all the work and sacrifices.

18. Are you planning touring in the near future, playing on a festival or something else?

Rainer – Yes. We will be on tour nov-dec for 10 daysTour and we are planning already for april/may next year. Meanwhile we hope to play as often as possible and are ready for requests.

19. Rainer and Oliver, you both are top musicians, what is needed to play at your level and make the best metal?

Rainer - Wow..enough, I am getting shy… I think the way is to practice, practice and practice even more.

20. Rainer and Tom, can you tell us about the gear you use, please give us details about it

Rainer – Hello dear corporations out there, I am going to make now advertisement for you for free. It would be nice, if you contact me for more.

Haha – joking aside: I play MESA BOOGIE RECTIFIER AMPS UND CABINETS, SIGGI BRAUN CUSTOM GUITARS, DUNLOP ZACK WYLDE WAH, TC ELECTRONICS EFFECTS. That’s all.

Tom - drums:

Sonor - deLite with the Sonor snare "Earth Model" from the "Artist"-series,

Cymbals: a mix of Sabian and Zyldian.

And the Pearl Eleminator - pedals.

21. In our website PerfectProg.Com we have several polls; can you tell us which are your preferred?

Rainer - All of them

Martin – I don’t use them, but I like your site in general. Especially the radio is great ;)

22. Do you have something that you would like to share with us?

All – Thanks a lot to the perfectprog.com team. Your work is unbelievable. It was an honor to gave you this interview. Big thanks to our fans in the whole world, who share our visions and supports us. Thank you!
