DIANOYA INTERVIEW
Friday, 16 November 2012
Hello Jan Niedzielski, guitarist from DIANOYA, I’m Jesus from PerfectProg.com, thank so much for your time and disposition.
1. Please talk us about Dianoya’s band name, the meaning.
Dianoya is a philosophical term. It was used by Plato. It is a type of intellectual and discursive thinking, in contrast with the immediate apprehension.
2. In the recent years the Polish prog metal scene has excelled from the rest of the world, bands like Riverside, Disperse, Division by Zero, Sandstone, Votum, Symphony and of course Dianoya, all you are making excellent music, why?
Great to hear that J To be honest – before release of our first album “Obscurity Divine” I didn’t have idea that so called polish prog is so popular outside our country. And it was really amazing to read those emails from people all around the world! And what is the reason? Maybe because there is no space for ambitious music in polish mass media. Even polish death metal bands like Vader or Behemoth are more popular in U.S. or in Europe than in Poland. Sad but true. I don’t know what the hell is wrong with polish media but whenever I talk with some polish musician his aim is to build his popularity outside our country.
3. I like so much Dianoya, Obscurity Divine is a masterpiece, you have a unique style, many and diverse influences, from where comes inspiration?
Thanks. I always say that life is the best inspiration to create music. Before working on our first album we didn’t have any idea in what direction we should go. And it was really cool because we didn’t have any limitations. In that time we knew, that we want to release this album on our own. We didn’t bother if someone say that some tracks are too long or the atmosphere is too moody. While working on that album we were listening to music but It’s really hard to say if there was one band that gave us inspiration.
4. Now Lidocaine is your second full length, please tell us about the recording and production.
Main difference about those two albums is that this time we really knew what we want to achieve. Before we entered the studio, we’ve made demo in our rehearsal room. We were recording in two studios: “PROGRESJA STUDIO” with Pawel “Janos” Grabowski and “SERAKOS STUDIO” with Magda and Robert Srzedniccy. Riverside has recorded 3 albums in SERAKOS, so we knew, that these people really know how to do their job. I am very pleased, because in my opinion production on this album is great, much better than on first album.
5. Why the name Lidocaine?
Well, a lot of cool things and few bad things happened after the release of our debut. I do not want to complain or anything like that, but there were some mistakes that we made. Fortunately, we drew conclusions and we focused on making new songs. There was something wonderful, that no matter what happens next, we’re playing in our rehearsal room and do our best! Creating music is an antidote to various problems. On the other hand, we realize that music we make is not easy. If someone really wants to experience this album, he needs to isolate himself from outside world for a while. It may be a form of anesthesia.
6. I love Dreamlack video, magnificent work, there’s some video from Lidocaine?
Yeah, Dreamlack video is very original. Marcin Przymus, who is director of this clip did really great job. This time we won’t make any video.

7. Please say us about Best Wishes song.
“Best Wishes” is track, that we choose to promote whole album. Every song on this CD is dedicated to real person, that has appeared in Lopez’ life (he wrote all lyrics on this album). This song is very ironical, lyrics for some moments are very sharp. On the other hand music is rather calm. I think, it’s great combination and this track is one of my favourite.

8. Please tell us about Drum Fest 2012 and the Terry Bozzio / Tony Levin experience.
Wow……!!!! It’s absolutely awesome when you share a stage with such great musicians! We had only 30 minutes. After our gig we were chatting for a while with Pat Mastelotto. He was watching our show. We gave him our CD then we took a photo with Bozzio and that was it. After our show Tony Levin said “Good job” J
9. Do you have some gigs in the near future?
We plan few gigs in Poland at February 2013 but we aspire to play outside our country.
10. Why the nick names Yahoo, Lopez and Paco?
These nick names come from our first names and surnames. It’s really hard to translate it to English.
11. Please tell us your favorite bands.
Type O Negative, Jane’s Addiction, Alice in Chains, Pantera, Opeth
12. There’s something that you want to share with us?
I hope you like our newest album “Lidocaine” and see you on our gigs J
Thank so much for your time Jan, it was a great pleasure for us on PerfectProg, please keep making beautiful music, “BEST WISHES”!!!
