Thank You Sieges Even for the Interview!

Hello Sieges Even, thanks for this Interview at PerfectProg.Com, we really appreciated
1- How's initiate Sieges Even?
SE started back in 1986 when we recorded our first demos. In 1988 we got our first deal with SPV records and recorded our debut 'Life Cycle' followed by
'Steps' in 1990 and 'A Sense of Change' in 1992. This was, so to speak, the first area of SIEGES EVEN. The rest is a long story that you can read at our
myspace:

:-)
2- Oliver and Alex Holzwarth, you are top musicians, where you have been studying?
Oliver: I studied at the Munich Bass Institute, but learned the most by myself.
Alex: I studied at Munich's drum school Drummer's Focus. Actually, I'm teaching there myself right now.
3- There's beside projects in the band?
Arno has his own band called 'Bonebag' in the Netherlands. Their first records will be out in Autumn 2007.
Alex is playing, as you probably know, in Rhapsody, and Oliver is the bassplayer in Blind Guardian.
I'm focusing on SIEGES EVEN exclusively, but I did a solo CD a couple of years ago.
4- I like so much your album the Art of navigating by the Stars, this album reaches a high level in the prog metal scene, how you have prepared and worked to make this amazing album?
Well, we had this song called 'The Weight' and we felt that it had some emotions and themes that could perfectly lead into other ones. So we kept on
writing, interlinking certain parts with musical themes and pieces. In the end we had over 60 minutes. It was our intention
5- How's going the new album? When will be ready?
It's almost finished. Recordings are already done and we are currently mixing the whole thing. It will be released worldwide through InsideOut Records in autumn 2007. As you can imagine we are very pleased with the
result: 11 tracks with a full-playing time of about 65 minutes. By the way, the album was co-produced by us and Kristian Kohlmannslehner.
6- There are some changes in the band, why?
Long story. When I left the band I had some probs of personal nature, and, on the other hand, we didn't have the support from our old record company which was kinda frustrating. So I quit for a while, heading for new goals. Oliver and Alex kept Sieges Even alive with a different line-up recording two albums without me ('Uneven' and 'Sophisticated' - by the way: the will
be re-released later this year). But we are together again for eight years now, and it feels just great. The chemistry is good, and after Arno joining the band, we have the feel to be a real band at last.
7- Past albums are quite so different from the new one, why?
You know, SIEGES EVEN always stood for change and reaching new musical shores. We don't want to repeat ourselves. That's why the album PARAMOUNT
sounds also different to everything we have done before - without denying our typical trademarks. The title of our third album 'A Sense Of Change'
says it all.
8- Why not incorporates keyboards and orchestration in your music?
We never had the feeling that the music would need that. But on the new album you'll hear some keyboards and also piano, but we only use them to support the other instruments not as solo instruments like for example a band like Dream Theater.
9- I have noted a Fates Warning's influence in your music, what you think about this awesome band?
Well, they are of course a great band but, to be perfectly honest, I don't think that we are influenced by them. Probably, they had the same influences like we had when we started. Today, I don't think we are
influenced by anyone. At one point in your musical development you just let go of your past heroes and pursue your own abilities and ideas. At least, that's how I feel about being a musician. But yeah, Fates Warning is still a fantastic band that deserves respect.
10- Which is your Instrument Gear?
Personally, I'm using Ibanez 7-string-guitars and a Ramirez classical guitar for the acoustic stuff. In the studio I use Hughes & Kettner and Mesa Boogie
amps. Oliver is playing Sandberg-basses and Ampeg amps. Alex is an endorser for Paiste. And Arno simply uses his voice.
11- We got some polls in our page; please select the musicians you preferred
There are some many great artists around, it's hard to choose one specifically. One of my personal heroes is Alex Lifeson. I also admire Allan Holdsworth a lot. But the biggest influence on me had the classical guitar
player Julian Bream, to me the embodiment of taste, tone and passion.
12- There's something that you want to share with your fans?
Thanks a lot for making our last album 'The Art Of Navigating By The Stars' such an overwhelming success. We hope you will like our new album
'Paramount' as well.
