Twinspirit - The Forbidden City (2009) - Review by Logan Lee

I feel very comfortable to review this album, since nowadays I am living in Italy land of this very talented musician called Daniele Liverani. Nowadays, he is the only Progressive Metal (or at least as I see it) true exponent making music around here. After his Rock Opera masterpiece called Genius (a fantastic concept trilogy) he started this project called Twinspirit alongside bass player Alberto Rigoni and the well recruited Danish singer Goran Nystrom (who has replaced the band's first singer Soren Adamsen).
The concept within this album is inherent to a dualism between dominancy and humbleness present in a single individual (but also in society as a whole) and in the final track (also my second favourite track) the second feeling releases itself from this oppression.
Musically we can see an growth tendency in comparison with their last (and first) album. Nystrom has achieved with his voice a vast variety of tones and styles (not to mention the amazing duet with a female vocal on the song "Hide this feeling"). Needless to say that Mr Liverani does not stop to surprise us with his compositions (on music and on writing) and all others musicians have followed these guidelines, as we can clearly see on long tracks as the first one, which is the title track (and my favourite of all).
In conclusion (besides my vote) I will make you guys envy (at least for those who already know this great group) by saying that luckily I'll be able to see them live this year : . For those who can't see them live, I strongly suggest to get as soon as possible this piece of Italian true progressive metal (and then envy me as weel).
Vote 9.5/10 (but only because Daniele Liverani already got a 10 with GENIUS rock opera)
