Division by Zero - Independent Harmony (2010) – Review by Logan Lee
I have to admit that this is my first time listening to this polish prog metal band and I assure all that it will not be the last since I got surprised by their sound, specially by Slawek Wierny (vocal) flexibility. He manages to vary between prog style and metal style (a bit like Akerfeldt from Opeth) with quite competence.
The other musicians did not really impressed me, not because they are not good, and my feeling is that they are all improving, but for the lack of innovation on this particular album (I have heard something from their last work and could not see a increasing line). Besides this, they all created a great music atmosphere mixing death vibrations, extremely great technique and good taste on lyrics.
I hope there will be a next album to prove me wrong (for what concerns innovation ability), but until than I will limit myself on what done so far: Their last CD was promising and after hearing Independent Harmony I am still waiting for that “promise” to become true.
This album presents two great songs, the first and the last one (see tracklist below) and the other 5 tracks are not bad, but also unable to fill the album central part with enthusiasm. Nevertheless, I will give them the benefit of doubt, since the above mentioned two tracks would deserve a 9,5 vote if they formed an EP, and give this album a full 8/10. Most advised for metal fans rather than to prog (as me) fans, even if I would suggest to give them a try anyway.
