BEST ALBUM OF 2009 WINNER: "HOURGLASS - Oblivious to the Obvious"
Sun Caged - Artemisia
10/10
Sun Caged from the Netherlands, brought a great album with great tracks this time. The not so obvious song twists, and melodious composition feels as if they really took the time to device these songs. Great album, great music, great progmetal just like Lemur Voice, one of the best progmetal bands of all times, now dismember so sad, but now Marcel Coenen brings this same style to life in this great band Sun Caged.
The tempo of the songs are at a medium, this makes way for a nice balance between ballads and some heavier (7-string) parts for strong dynamics.
Talking about guitars Marcel Coenen such a string wizard makes this album really shine. Not saying that the other band members are there for show, their craftsmanship seeps through as well. Drums wreak havoc and technical when needed, the vocals of Paul Adrian are clear and remind me of Ted Leonard, so great, so much feeling. Key's are really up there par with Andre Anderson's fills and solo's. And last but not least their new basist, he really is a complementary part and adds value to the songs.
Overall, a great album, greatly mastered, really worth picking up....
I hope they keep it up, and really look forward to their next album.
