Alberto Rigoni – Rebirth (2011) – Review by Logan Lee

Rebirth is the second album I’ve heard (and I am quite sure it is his second solo album) of this very talented Italian bass player. Alberto Rigoni, with plenty of other amazing musicians such as Porcupine Tree’s drummer Gavin Harrison, has managed to surprise me again on this pleasant return. His first solo album, “Something Different” (which I got directly from him on the Twinspirits concert), was truly a very interesting demonstration of his versatility and technical ability with the Bass.

This time Alberto Rigoni gave me the opportunity to hear the album before its release but due to some small issues I had to postpone this review. Rebirth is a step further compared to the previous album showing his continuous musical growth. I have found many influences on this album; there’s a bit of all and the result is a taste of great music.

Rebirth is a nine tracks album with seven instrumental songs and other two songs (Emptiness and With all my forces) with the very peculiar and interesting voice of Jonas Erixon that turned out to be a striking feature of the album. Personally these two tracks are among my favourites alongside with “Free” and “White Shine” (first and last tracks respectively), but the entire album is made of great compositions based on a extraordinary way to approach the bass (could not be different) and I strongly recommend this CD for everyone who enjoy trying new music arrangements and new ideas because that what prog is about after all.

To top it off Alberto Rigoni may give us the chance to interview, therefore, if you like this album keep yourselves updated on perfecprog.com for this interview.

Since I was listening to Rebirth and relaxing on its waves I was almost forgetting to leave my vote for the album. For me it is always very hard to give technical impressions on instrumental works but I will leave my impression for its effect nonetheless. 8,5/10.
