This Swedish formation continue being the best progressive metal band, with the addition of a new bassist, they comeback with another impressive album, the formula is pure prog metal once again, extremely technical, they keep creating perfect music, the three year wait worth-while, Chimera is conformed by nine songs and one bonus track, periscope, is the best song of the album, simply awesome, the power and rapidity of the drums are amazing, Thomas is the best drummer over the world, no doubt! All the band members made an excellent work in the entire album, Johan’s guitar quickness, loud distortion, he creates a figure in the guitar and suddenly he plays something totally different, very impressive, Fabian’s great debut, check the song The Hidden Riddle, David’s voice and the chorus are magnificent, in the song Inner Circle, at the four and a half minutes the show starts, Andromeda’s trademark, and In a Blink of An Eye, at the end of the song Martin plays the periscope part with the classical piano, simply geniality! Impressive third album from the LA’s prog metal band Redemption, The Origins of Ruin is their best work, they consolidates, and now they are a top band, Nick is a musical genius, expose openly their ideas and feelings, incredibly emotional, he traduces all these ideas and feelings in music and lyrics, it’s perfect, this is write, play and sing with the heart, but they don’t forget the technical and heavy parts, pretty amazing!!!, all the prog metal should be like this; The album is conformed by nine tracks, two bonus tracks for the Japanese edition, almost an hour for the normal edition, each song is special, like Nick’s says about Suffocating Silence song: “The trademarks that Redemption has in our music: heavy but melodic, complex but song-oriented, a lot of “urgency” or tension to the music”, this “urgency or tension in the music” are instrumental parts and it’s when the band plays faster at the same time, this “urgency or tension” came in the entire album, the tension in the keyboards and piano parts are amazing, also orchestrations, these gives an excellent touch to the music, it seems that your heart come out from your chest; Ray’s voice simply awesome, singing with a special sentiment, Sean Andrews debut with a remarkable work in this album, he is a notable bassist, Chris and Bernie improves each album recorded, now we’re waiting for the tour, it will be excellent!!!

Impressive German band, five members, Jioti Parcharidis, the frontman, perfect voice, top vocalist, sings with an awesome sentiment and also he sings very strong, Andreas Kienitz, the guitar player, great technique and feeling, talented musician, Oliver Hintz, notable keyboardist, great solos and orchestrations, Matthias Vogel, remarkable bassist, extraordinary capacity, Olaf Hoffmeister, the drummer, top musician, exceptional ability; Oceans was made in 1996, top album, totally progressive, totally metal, the recording is not the best, but the technique and feeling of the band is excellent, seven themes, almost 48 minutes, 5/7 songs are over the seven minutes, and each one is an excellent piece.
Song by song:
Infinite Ways, ten minute track, starts with drums, keyboards, guitars and bass at the same time, next, appears Jioti’s charming voice, the changes in the rhythms are great, Jioti’s shouts are fantastic, top singer, at the 4:30 appears a musical part, begins with keys orchestration, progressive drums, phenomenal bass and great guitar solo, pretty amazing! Jioti’s voice again, the melody is very contagious, guitar harmonies in the vain of Fates Warning accompanied by keys, splendid work! At the 8:30 keyboards solo, the feeling and the elaborate music are in the entire song, sublime work.
Nexus, commence with drums, guitar, bass and keys at the same time, Jioti’s vocals, in the entire song they made amazing music, check the high level of technique of the band, in the present time Atmosfear, another talented German band, makes this kind of complex music, only a few bands got this level.
Labyrinth, guitar harmonies, keyboard orchestration, bass and drums to commence, next, Jioti’s sentimental voice, very moving along the song, this is accompanied by progressive guitar and drums, the elegance of the band is showed, at the 3:40 begins a musical part, that starts with delicate keyboards and drums accompanied by guitar and bass, next appears piano sounds and drums continues, but now faster and stronger, next, guitar solo, and next, keys solo, magnificent, the music is getting faster, and instrumental music continues, next appears Jioti’s incredible voice, what a complement! Top band! The song ends with saxophone sounds.
Door To December, if this song doesn’t appear in the album it will be perfect. Is an instrumental piece, it seems to me country music, but they have their reasons to put it in the oceans album.
Oceans, if someone doubts about the quality of the band, just listen this song, is one the bests, top song in prog metal, starts with guitar harmonies with effects and keys orchestration, next, the impressive voice of Jioti, next, hi hat and drum bass, the way that Olaf hits the hi hat is amazing, next, he hits all the drums and cymbals with expertise, the bass work is more notorious, guitar harmonies continues, Oliver plays splendid notes, scales and orchestrations, Jioti begins to sing more loose, spectacular voice, all instruments are coordinate with perfection, exalted metal, at the 7:50 begins an awesome musical part, starts with keys followed by super-progressive drums and guitar distortion at the same time, Matthias capacity is lofty, Jioti’s voice is back and the drums work continues, the song ends with fineness.
Forest Rain, starts with the guitar and keys orchestration, followed by drums and bass, next, Jioti’s voice, then, he makes three chants, marvellous, the way that Jioti make his own chorus is great, fast hi hat, musical part at the four minutes, includes solos by Andreas and Oliver, magnificent opus! Jioti’s strong voice is back, accompanied by heavy guitar harmonies, the impressive metal continues until the end of the song.
Aquasun, the last song, excels the keyboards and Jioti’s voice, simply wonderful!!!
Utah based band, they play a stylish prog metal with rock and fusion incorporations, five well-prepared musicians conformed the band, Brick James, the brain of the band, creates most of the music, great solos, riffs and acoustic harmonies, the vocalist, Cody Walker, touching voice, sings in Broadway, Eric Robertson, the keyboardist, great orchestrations and scales, John Dunston, the drummer, he plays everything in his drums, another complete drummer, and the bassist, Sam Doty, technique and feeling, please check the interview that we made to Brick and John.
Song by song:
The Hammer Strike, a 17 minutes song, the elegance of the band is very notorious since the beginning; John plays progressive drums, the sounds of the drums, cymbals and percussion are great, he take the drumstick with the close hand and hits the edge of the snare to make a stupendous sound, Brick play heavy chords, the bass is loud, next, a heavier music is come, the keyboards orchestration appears and then Cody, he add his feeling, the high grade of prog is showed along the album, fantastic group work, in this song the spectacle starts at the 8:30 minutes, they play several musical parts with awesome diversity that includes guitar solos, piano solo, fast and powerful drums, aggressive bass, keyboards that makes great sounds, one of these like the marimba; At the 14 minute the song returns at what they play in the beginning, wonderful work! Is amazing that a talented band like Hourglass will come to Chihuahua, Mex. I’ve gone at the most metal events in this city, and there haven’t anything alike, they aren’t far from the Dream Theater level.
Altered State, begins with the bass and drums sounds, followed by guitar harmonies and keys, Cody appears with his original voice, captivating drums with fast hi hat and cymbals, constant tambourine, rapid drums and percussions, I’m imagine this song like a MTV’s “unplugged”, the music is getting alter, principally the drums and bass, an acoustic musical part instead of guitar solo, they make a spectacular work, that’s why John is in our polls.
Mist Of Darkness, composed by three parts, part 1 The Mist, is an intro, keys orchestration with cymbals and shine sounds; part 2 Washed Away, acoustic guitar sound, drums, moving voice, next, they turn to something faster, then, return to the slow music, again appears shine sounds and drums, next, appears a great guitar notes, the distortion appears, this is heavier, strong drums, a very good bass part by Sam, they creates marvelous musical passages, they play everything and then they back to the start of the part, great musical ideas; part 3 Silent Suffering, start with the continue of the second part, the drums excel with clarity, Cody keep singing, Brick’s great solo, attaches sentiment in his notes, Eric and Sam do the same, captive music, the voice with more sentiment, next, speedy hi hat with wonderful sound of the guitar, these are followed by drums, another great solo by Brick to end the song, intense musical composition.
Thread The Needle, guitar followed by drums, keys and bass, then, the voice appears, musical part with keyboard solo, strong bass, heavy song.
Exit Wounds, seven parts integrate this song, amazing history, different points of view about the courage and love of a man for his country, check the interview of Hourglass, Brick explains the lyrics of this great song, part 1 Farewell, starts with the snare like a war band accompanied by guitar, keys and bass, next appears a melodic guitar, next, Cody explains the beginning of the history, part 2 The Soldier, one more time war band snare, but this time with acoustic guitar, bass and keys, vocals appears, the bass sound is loud, next, the music turns heavy, part 3 The Unbeliever, wonderful progressive metal, the drums are fantastic, John’s show, the music is getting faster, then slow down and then fast, at the 4:00 minutes the Hourglass metal is to commence, great musicians, suddenly ends the part with a guitar distortion, part 4 Daddy’s Little Girl, captive song, very moving, tears flows, everyone plays and sing with the heart in this song, marvelous work, very sad words, part 5 The Believer, acoustic guitar with piano, followed by drums, bass and vocals, Hourglass nice prog rock, part 6 Widowed, guitar riffs with keys, drums, bass and vocals, great music, fast and progressive, then turns slow down, appears acoustic guitars, next, a great voice is listened, followed by shine sounds, drums, acoustic harmonies and piano, part 7 The Soldier Alive, the music is alike at the first part, the farewell of the soldier, piano appears and is followed by voice, shine and drums sounds, the music of the beginning is again, fade out to end the album.
