Like an approaching storm Altura's debut album, Mercy, begins with the gentle sounds of rain and far off thunder. The keyboards echo the pattern of the rain before the guitars and drums crash in. The album continues with complex rhythms and hypnotic time signatures to create a powerful blend of progressive metal. The vocals rise above the melodic storm as sweeping keyboards drift in and out among the layers of guitars. The lyrics bring a personal, often introspective touch to the songs, giving them a warmth not generally associated with heavier music.
Based out of Charlotte, North Carolina, Altura began when Franklin Ervin and Jeremy Osborne (who had been playing together in a variety of bands) began writing together with the Altura concept in mind. With the addition of drummer Chad Gibson in 1993, the trio continued developing their songwriting skills. The next step in Altura's evolution was keyboardist Jason Lingle's entry to the fold. The finishing touch was the difficult search for the ever elusive lead vocalist. After many months of auditioning singers, Rain Irving was named to fill that position.
Altura began playing clubs around the Charlotte and Greensboro area. Gathering a loyal base of progressive fans, the group recorded a five song demo in June of 1995 which caught the ear of Magna Carta representatives. Matched with producer Robert Berry, the band embarked on a recording schedule at Berry's California studio which proved to be a creative and positive environment for this young band to produce their first album.
For fans of bands such as Dream Theater, Shadow Gallery and Queensryche, progressive metal is given a new face with Mercy from Altura.

Surprising new material, we recently have received from Inside Out records Angular Perceptions by Thought Chamber, a very respectable band formed by the well-know guitar player Michael Harris, we know his long path, excellent musician, he got some solo albums, his main characteristic is the originality, and Thought Chamber is not the exception; The front man is a top Vocalist, Ted Leonard, enchanting voice, but the way that he sings in this album is totally different at how he sings with Enchant, another Ted’s façade, Haji’s Kitchen musicians drummer Rob Stankiewicz, and the bass player Derek Blakley, great work in this album by these two musicians, they have participated in some other projects; The keyboardist is Bobby Williamson from the Texan band Outworld; Angular Perceptions contains ten songs, three instrumental themes, 56 minutes of progressive metal with different genres, this music is complex and indescribable, they play things only one time, and never repeat it again, there’s a lot of Michael’s solo albums music in this record, but in a progressive vain and with voice, great work, Ted’s voice is brilliant, he sings amazingly, is great that he sings in other band, all the vocalists must have a side band, Rob and Derek are talented musicians, great skills and coordination, Bobby keys work is good, but I likely if Michael and him incorporate keyboards orchestration in the music, it will be awesome.

I get amazed by this album, Redemption have reached a high level in metal scene, with the addition of the vocalist of Fates Warning, Ray Alder, top vocalist, and also the music improve, a great recording, everything in this record is better than the first album, The Fullness Of Time are integrated by five songs, one of these is divided in four parts, almost an hour of great progressive metal, the best song, Sapphire, top song, this masterpiece lasts 16:00, really intense, awesome guitar and keys solos, a lot of feeling, at the end of the song Ray sings with incredible feeling this words: “Treasures have slipped through my fingertips, and the sapphire vanished from my hand” the lyrics in the entire album are just amazing, I don’t know if Nick has lived through very hard times, I think so, to write this kind of lyrics you need to lived a lot of pain and sorrow, and you need to lost some people that you really loved to realize that you’re wrong and you need to change, I admire the fact that Nick share a part of his history, also the lyrics of the part of Transcendence from the Fullness of Time song is the key to live a better life, please check it; the music includes emotional solos, heavy guitar riffs and distortions by Nick and Bernie, magnificent quickness and technique on Chris hands, and a dynamic and loud bass by James, pure intelligent metal!
