Interview with ZAYN

Croatian post/progressive metallers Zayn in 2015 released their third album \"Fields of God.\" The band has some big plans for 2016; they will be on a mini-tour through Europe in May. We talked with the band about their work.

What made you go for the name Zayn?

Simple four letter word that describes our instrumental music. Arabic for inner beauty. The perfect word for us.

How do you usually describe your music?

Loud, aggressive, vigorously. Mix of genres on metal base.

What is your writing process like?

We mainly try to find the dynamic flow of pieces through performing the songs until we sense that we\'re going in the right direction. For example..every song from \"Fields of God\" has been changed probably 10 times before recording. It\'s a process in which our aim is to be satisfied with music and energy we want to produce.

Who or what is your inspiration, if you have any?

We\'re from a small Croatian town and being stucked in this depressed, narrow minded and stagnating hole of a country gives us more than enough inspiration to be loud and angry.

What is your favourite song on the new album “Fields of God”?

Funny question. All of them of course.

What makes “Fields of God” different?

It came to exist as an observation of our environment where depression and narrow minds enclose us. It is a way of presenting that depression, sadness and hope of overcoming boundaries. Our short band description/statement also comes from this:

\"Voice means nothing. Happiness is unknown. Happiness is destination.\"

What should music lovers expect from “Fields of God”?

It\'s dark, monolithic and powerful both musically and conceptually. It\'s the next step in our development and it blows our mind when we play it. New listeners won\'t be left indifferent, that\'s our promise.

What kind of emotions would you like your audience to feel when they listen to your music?

Want them to feel large amount of happiness after massive adrenaline boost that makes them lose themselves. That\'s what\'s happening to us when we play.

Which do you like most, life in the studio or on tour?

It\'s important to be good in both, but the tour part is way more interesting.

Pick your 3 favourite albums that you would take on a desert island with you.
