Riverside – Reality Dream (2008) – Review by Logan Lee

Riverside – Reality Dream (2008) – Review by Logan Lee

What to say about Riverside? For me they are one of the most pleasant surprises on the Prog scenario and their first official Live album (Reality Dream) has come to show us that not only Riverside is a very technical Band but also able to perform amazingly in front of the audience (and lets face it, this feature is getting rarer on modern bands).

Blaze Bayley – Promise and Terror (2010) – Review by Logan Lee

The newest work from Blaze Bayley, Promise and Terror has come to confirm something that I’ve been defending for a while: Blaze is quite another guy away from the pressure from Iron Maiden. Don’t get me wrong, those two IM’s albums with Blaze were quite good, but as a single singer Blaze is improving CD after CD.

Orphaned Land, The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR 10/10

Orphaned Lands 4th studio album in a 16 year period and 6 years after the Breathtaking Mabool. i admit to have been a little sceptical as to whether they could put out another Masterpiece worthy of Mabool. I needn't have worried because this album is as good in every way with Orphaned Land creating all the sounds of Isreal and the middle East as only they can.

We have Steven Wilson ( Porcupine Tree ) producing the album and his polish is there for all to hear!! I think the guitar work on this album exceeds that on Mabool with some of the most Beautiful solos you are likely to hear and with Arabian Violins played by the Arab Orchestra Of Nazareth, It just adds to the Whole Arabic feel. The Vocals are again another highlight, from Growls to clean, kobi Farhi is one extremely expressive singer.

Fates Warning to release deluxe edition of “Parallels” on March 16th, 2010!
Fates Warning has announced the release of the deluxe edition of their seminal 1991 album, Parallels! Fans can get their hands on this new take on the album on March 16th, 2010. The deluxe edition has been completely re-mastered and contains well over 3 hours of music and live footage. Parallels is the sixth record from the prog metal pioneers and was one of their music successful releases due to the commercial success of the singles Eye To Eye, Point Of View and We Only Say Goodbye. Also, James LaBrie of Dream Theater fame makes a guest appearance on the track Life In Still Water. Parallels has proven to be one of the most influential albums in the prog and metal genres, despite its hotly debated status among fans as a "commercial" sounding album.

Vocalist Ray Alder comments further, "I think it’s one of the best albums we ever put out and I’m happy that fans have the chance to take a second look at this important record. The lineup, the songs and the cover art all came together to make a great package when originally recorded and the bonus DVD really adds a fresh perspective to the album."

Orphaned Land - The Never Ending Way of Orwarrior (2010) – Review by Logan Lee

Orphaned Land is indeed what Opeth would be if they were not Scandinavian but from the Middle East. This amazing album follows their usual dichotomy line guide (good x evil; ligh x dark; Hope x Delusion; ecc) and presents, as always, great progressive passages mixed with local folk music and some really good death metal influences.

Equal Vector ( Aspectations ) 8 / 10

A Prog Metal- Rock band from Greece, Equal Vector have some really great qualities for a pretty obscure band. They have some great melodies accompanied by some very talented musicians and a vocalist who reminds me of  a cross between Ray Alder and Andre Matos. I am pretty sure this is their first and last album as they have now split, which is a great shame as there is some true song writing potential here. The band reminds me of  Dream Theater and Redemption which is nothing new there.

AtmOsfear – Zenith (2009) – Review by Logan Lee

We have been waiting for a while, but after long six years AtmOsfear returns with this very impressing piece of music work called Zenith. When I first listened to their previous album “inside the atmosphere” I remember thinking that their style was very interesting with a proper mix of metal and prog influences. Well, Zenith may be considered a follow up, even if it is a bit more into prog (and I add FORTUNATELLY).

Alchemy X – A Delicate Balance (1999) – Review by Logan Lee

Friday, 08 January 2010

This is Alchemy X start album and as such might be heard with more sympathetic ears. With that in mind I also would like to add that their style is not what I usually hear (and enjoy).
